California Good Thyme Burger (a gourmet recipe in no time at all)

The California Good Thyme Burger (makes 2 burgers)

INGREDIENTS
fresh loaf of your fav french baguette (you really only need half, but the other half is for your awesome self to enjoy)
1.5 lbs of ground beef
clove o' garlic
1 1/2 sprigs off the thyme "branch"
1 green onion
small handful of chives (depending on how much you like chives)
1 tomato
1 avocado
two small handfuls of fav spring mix (lettuce)
1 table spoon butter (substitute EVOO)
swiss cheese (sandwich size)
salt and pepper

Optional
-spicy brown mustard

I just happened to have all of these ingredients in my kitchen while me and my wife decided to make burgers for lunch and at the last second I asked if we had any more Thyme; I think that's what makes it so much fun and tasty. I got a lot of these ingredients from my local farmer's market so it had that really fresh taste; to quote my favorite HBO show Bored to Death "I could taste the farmer's hands pulling the cucumbers from the earth".

First cut up all the veggies. Finely cut the chives and onion. I used a Martha Stewart Garlic Zoom  on the garlic (so much fun!) but you can dice it up however you want. Cut the tomato and avocado for burger sized toppings.

Sauté the chives, onion and thyme leaves in a little pan with the butter for about 5 minutes (or till it smells awesome). add a small amount of salt and pepper.

While that's cooking massage the chopped garlic into the ground beef.

All right! take that great smelling sauté and mix it in with the ground beef (be careful and wait for it to cool down before you mix it all together).

Form meat into two thick patties.

Get your grill hot. We used a nonstick grill pan over the gas stove.

Cook about 10 min (5 on each side) for medium-medium rare. Salt and pepper both sides as you turn them.

While burgers are cooking cut your french bread long ways and put the four halves in a toaster oven or oven (Just to warm and give them a little crunch) - 5 min low-med heat

About a minute before you take them off, place a slice of swiss cheese over each burger.

Put a light coat of mustard on the baguette halves.

Assemble your burger on the baguette adding tomato, avocado, spring mix on top.

Pair with a nice pilsner or cab of your choice :)

Bon appetit!
